When they design wallpaper for homes, Mark Evans and Charley Brown draw on deep knowledge of and affection for a wide variety of artistic and decorative traditions. They start with hand drawings, and then draw on their mastery of trompe l’oeil techniques to give unusual degrees of depth and texture to the finished product. This delicate design for Brewster Home Fashions is inspired by silk textiles created in the mid-18th century by Anna Maria Garthwaite, whose works are in the collections of London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and other institutions.
