With a San Francisco base, mural artists Mark Evans and Charley Brown often get asked about creating works with strong local flavors. They resist the usual postcard clichés when asked to do California murals. “If people want a cable car we might try to steer them in another direction to a less-familiar local icon,” Mark says. Adds Charley: “And if we’re asked to do the Golden Gate Bridge, we try to find a fresh approach.” Patrons who let the pair have their heads are treated to a variety of powerful, evocative scenes, celebrating their home state’s landscapes, industries and legends.
