When they design wallpaper for homes, Mark Evans and Charley Brown draw on deep knowledge of and affection for a wide variety of artistic and decorative traditions. They start with hand drawings, and then draw on their mastery of trompe l’oeil techniques to give unusual degrees of depth and texture to the finished product. This design for Brewster Home Fashions is one of their first and most successful patterns, featuring swirls of cabochons, based on widely admired ironwork by Edgar Brandt, a French craftsman who has become an icon for Art Deco enthusiasts.
